Ramaphosa spokesperson Khusela Diko reinstated on a warning following PPE tender saga

Just over a year after taking time off from all official roles in the government, pending investigations into her role in a fraudulent personal protective equipment (PPE) contract between her husband and the Gauteng Health Department, presidential spokeswoman Khusela Diko was reinstated on a warning.

Diko confirmed that she was back at work adding that she was only censured for not disclosing her directorship to a company she resigned from.

Her friend an MMC at Johannesburg City Council Loyiso Masuku was also cleared on any wrong doing. Khusela Diko, and her husband, Chief Madzikane II Thandisizwe Diko were sucked in a PPE procurement saga of over R125 million. The tender was awarded by the Gauteng Health department to a company which Diko, her husband and Loyiso are directors. Loyiso’s husband Bandile Masuku was the MEC for the Gauteng Health Department when the tender was won by chief’s Royal Bacha projects.

The PPE procurement was part of the government’s efforts to combat the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic and are a much-needed resource by those on the frontlines.
