KZN faces flooding due to heavy rains

A cold front associated with an upper air trough is expected to result in rain and thunderstorms over the southern and eastern parts of KZN.

THE South African Weather Service has warned about the possibility of disruptive rainfall that may lead to localised flooding on Saturday (today).

A cold front associated with an upper air trough is expected to result in rain and thunderstorms over the southern and eastern parts of KZN.

‘Heavy rain is expected from the morning continuing throughout the day where there will be intermittent showers, reducing visibility quite significantly.

‘Areas over the southern and eastern parts of KZN can expect a daily rainfall accumulation of 25-35mm,’ said the weather service.

Affected areas include: Big Five Hlabisa, Hluhluwe, Underberg, eThekwini, Greater Kokstad, Ingwe, KwaDukuza, Mandeni, Maphumulo, uMfolozi, Ndwedwe, Ray Nkonyeni, Richmond, Ubuhebzwe, Umdoni, Umhlabuyalingana and uMhlathuze.

People are urged to avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams and to take caution when travelling.
